DIY part X+1 of Y

This might take a while.

I've spent the afternoon stripping wallpaper off the wall with the aid of a steamer. Still making remarkably slow progress. While there is thankfully only one layer of wallpaper on the walls (except around the radiator), the plaster is every bit as bad as I feared, and I think I'm about to discover 140 years of neglect and stupidity in action, especially as I uncover where the fireplace used to be.

On the one hand, it's not that surprising to find out I can't do much in one go. On the other hand, it's annoying and makes me feel somewhat useless.

Wallpaper stripping is incredibly time consuming and frustrating. I've done a couple of rooms and they take 4 times as long as you think the worst case might be. Don't beat yourself up - just think about how very satisfied you'll be when it's DONE. ;)

True, but I'm not known for my extended attention span, and I'm determined to have this room be a project I actually finish (even though at latest count I need two separate contractors to do the parts I can't).

sounds like u are doing fine. These things come together eventually. however, plastering is v specialist! I don't recommend trying that.

I have no intention! If it doesn't look like it can be covered up convincingly with paint, I will have to pay someone to do it.

I can remove wallpaper, and paint. Everything else I will pay someone to do.
