Rollerblading!
Aug. 9th, 2009 08:16 pm(Speaking of my own stupidity).
Today, for the first time in 16 years, I went rollerblading.
There are no words to describe how hard I sucked.
In my defence:
- it's been 16 years;
- I've had a chronic debilitating illness for 13 of those years
- I'm carrying around something like 50% more body weight than I was then
It was really frustrating, because I knew exactly what I needed to do, I just didn't have the muscle power or the balance to be able to do it. The balance is concerning as it may be neurological damage rather than something I've forgotten.
Observation: Just because I walk over 3 miles nearly every day, doesn't mean I'm even remotely fit. I suspect the exercise bike beckons, but I'm not a fan.
I had my first ever rollerblading falling-on-my-butt experience. At least I have more padding! My back & neck don't feel too bad now, but I'll have to wait for a few days to find out whether I've avoided any damage.
I was making progress when I had to give up due to lack of stamina. I'm going to stick with it as I remember it being great fun. The other promising thing is that I didn't wait for a day when I was feeling relatively well - in fact, I've been feeling really crap all weekend but today is the first day it's been nice, I've been at home *and* I haven't had stuff I needed to do with the house since I bought the skates 2 months ago, so it's not something I have to be at my best to attempt.
Whether or not I've injured my back, everything else hurts. I may be doing my best House impression for the next few days.

I tried out my sister's pair once and that very quickly went into the Never Ever Again pile. :D
