[books 2010] The Manual of Detection
Feb. 28th, 2010 12:05 pm13. The Manual of Detection by Jedediah Berry
This was thrust upon me by
techbint.
This is a odd little story set in a Brazil- or Kafka-esque world where a lowly clerk in The Agency is suddenly promoted to detective when the detective he has been working for goes missing. The clerk (Charles Unwin) decides that the only way to make things right is to find his detective. A lot of it takes place in dreams. It's very noir, but in a stylised, cartoon-like way.
Hard to describe but very good indeed.
