The good news is, I booked our Whitby accommodation today. The bad news is, the place we had last time wasn't available. There is nothing available in Robin Hood's Bay because the week at the beginning of Whitby is school holiday and the place is packed out. So I got somewhere approximately the same distance in the other direction from Whitby. And a bit inland, so no 5:30 am seagull chorus!!!

I'd make some resolution about booking earlier next year but like that's ever going to happen!

Actually a little bit inland from Sandsend - West Barnby. It's on the same page on streetmap.co.uk as the castle. There is also something called "Wade's Stone", and "tumuli" marked on there.

If you get an OS map you'll find that there a loads and loads of tumuli scattered all over the area.

Interestingly, I can see both Wades Stone and Wade's Stone! And a Roman signal station.

If you use www.multimap.co.uk you can get an aerial photograph, and you can lay that over the map if you like - sometimes you can pick out features by their shadows.
