[books 2010] Roots of Evil and a warning
May. 13th, 2010 06:06 pm31. Roots of Evil by Sarah Rayne
Another trashy modern gothic novel by Sarah Rayne. Pretty much the same idea as the other books of hers I've written up. Fun, if the intellectual equivalent of cotton candy, and just what my cold-ridden brain needed.
Believe it or not, I'm not going to finish this book
I posted a while ago that I'd started watching The Vampire Diaries on TV. Since then, it's been going from strength to strength and I'm having a ton of fun with it. So I ordered the only one of the books from the series that the library had in stock at the time (The Vampire Diaries - The Return: Shadow Souls, for the record).
It's a later one in the series, but that doesn't excuse how bad it is. Absolutely everything I like about the TV series is different in the books. But mostly, it's all about how much Elena loves Stefan. It's really vomit-inducing. Everybody is blonde and beautiful, which is mentioned on every page.
I'm really glad I discovered the TV series first - if I'd come across the books years ago, I never would have given the TV version a chance.
