Some to most of you will be aware of Neil Gaiman's attempt to start a new Hallowe'en tradition of giving people books of scary stories (something I approve of).

There's been a lot of talk about what books fit the bill, and almost all of this discussion includes John Bellairs' The House With a Clock in Its Walls.

Now, I remember seeing this book in my public library every single week when I was growing up, but I cannot for the life of me recall whether or not I've ever read it, despite it sounding exactly like My Kind of Thing.

Neil provided a link to Joe Hill's discussion of same, who recommends (amongst other things) Ray Bradbury's collection of horror stories, November Country.

I have somehow just ordered both of the above as well as Something Wicked This Way Comes, which I definitely read when I was 12 and have been meaning to re-read ever since.

Whoops.

I've not seen the film but I saw it as a stage play years ago and it was scary as all hell!
