We had a long talk about purchasing a new TV last night, but you'll all be pleased to hear we eventually came to our senses. When smoke is coming out of the back of this one , I will go drop £50 on another crap old one.

I'm not sure when or how we got jointly kidnapped by the Spirits of Good Consumerism. But we're over it now.

[1] yes Mel, it's still going. It loses hold on the colour occasionally and allegedly still makes that noise, but I ceased to hear the noise years ago (Since the incident with the burglar alarm I have chronic tinnitus anyway, so I really don't notice).

For that price I can get a really good second hand TV.

It's not the money, I just can't bring myself to buy new stuff when it's available second hand.

I'm with you on that, certainly as far as TVs go. I'd also suggest that a better-quality second-hand set would last longer than a brand new cheapie.
