71. Dead Men's Boots by Mike Carey

This month's Bibliogoths book.

We didn't get much discussion out of it - the Felix Castor novels are another series of supernatural detective stories.  It's trashy enough to be a good read, but is well written enough and has just enough "concept" that you don't feel like your brain has dribbled out your ear.  It's set in London and features locations most of us were familiar with.  And name-checks Anthony Johnston as a comic book artist - some of you may remember him from upg days.

For me the obvious comparison was to the Dresden Files series.  This is nowhere nearly as good (I thought it dragged a bit in the middle), but I'll still be reading the rest of the series, and soon.

Really? I think the Mike Carey books are better than the Dresden Files. :)

Well, I've only read the one Mike Carey so far.

I'm well aware that I'm way too emotionally invested in the Harry Potter series, but the one other Dresden fan in my book club prefers him too.

And Felix Castor doesn't have a Foo dog.
