I hate winter
Dec. 20th, 2011 03:48 pmNot exactly news, I realise. As most of you know, I hate snow. I really, really hate snow. Growing up in Saskatchewan, it can start in September and not be gone till May. Hallowe'en costumes had to fit over snowsuits. I saw enough of it in the 17 years I lived there to fill a lifetime.
I might have to reconsider the whole not living where it snows regularly policy. Because we have not had a rain-free day for at least 8 days, probably longer than that. It almost got light today - well, I managed to drive to the gym without my lights, which is more than I can say for the preceding week. (Seriously people - if your car is the same colour grey as the asphalt and the sky, you might want to consider turning your lights on even though it's the middle of the day). It went all black and started to rain again 5 minutes after I got home.
I'm practically certain that snow, if it's a dry cold, isn't as bad as this. And I might be romanticising things, but I seem to recall that it does get light in the winter in Canada, and doesn't start getting dark at 3. (Except in the mountains and BC, and I haven't become the sort of filthy hippy that would live on the West Coast anyway).
Because of the damp, every time I get cold, my knees get creaky, and hurt. I keep having frightening core temperature drops that mean I have to stand under a scalding hot shower for 20 minutes, except that shitty infrastructure means that getting my shower hot enough will not happen on very cold days.
Most importantly, I'm really sure that the lack of sunlight is a major contributing factor to Just. How. Fucking. Depressed. I. Am.
