I almost certainly remember liking Iron Man quite a bit.

This, not so much. Solid performance from Robert Downey Jr, but dull overall. Take away the dying and needing to find an alternate power source sub-plot, and it would have made for a fun superhero film.

The corporate villain was just too Austin Powers for words, which didn't fit with the rest of the film.

Agreed. Really not a fan of the way they treated Justin Hammer - the comics version was dry, clever and responsibile for funding and equipping a fair few of Iron Man's foes.

Perhaps they thought that'd be too much like the villain from the first film.

Definitely prefer the first one (and the Avengers) to IM2.

Haven't seen Avengers yet - need to see Captain America first.

Yeah, the 2nd wasn't near as good as the first. I was especially annoyed that they seemed to have a 'one strong female character per movie' rule - in the first one, Pepper Potts was strong and capable counterbalance to Tony Stark. In the second one, we have Scarlet Johansen in black vinyl, so Pepper Potts must be...a whiny crying GIRL who can't handle *anything*, despite being made CEO of the company. WTF?

Yeah - what the hell was up with all that screaming like a little girl in the Monte Carlo sequence? I nearly turned it off then.
