Pet update

inulroFrodo the rat passed away Sunday evening. So much for me being the anti-death of rats. It stopped raining long enough yesterday that we were able to bury him in the back yard without having to bail out the grave.
The gerbil is not as poorly as we thought, but he is utterly useless. He still doesn't chew, rip, dig or do anything but eat and sleep. This reminds me of Mr. Teeth the completely broken hamster that was rescued from appalling neglect like this gerbil was. It's like he just doesn't know how to be a gerbil because he wasn't given the right facilities early on. I've pushed his tank up alongside that of my other gerbils so maybe he can observe and learn. That was 3 days ago and no luck so far. I'm just stuck with the most boring gerbil in the world. On the plus side, he doesn't bite. He was nearly named "thing", because there was some brief doubt about his gender (it's usually easy to tell with gerbils but when they really don't want to be handled it's hard to keep them still long enough to have a look). I had yet another look at him, and he's definitely a he, so we've gone with Stan (thanks to whoever suggested that), because - well, he looks like a Stan.
The Roborovskis are still the best cheap therapy in the world ever.
