Sadly bears no resemblance to the Tim Powers novel. Better than the second and third films, which is not saying much. Penelope Cruz is always watchable, and Johnny Depp is Johnny Depp. Ian McShane seems to be turning into rent-a-psychopath, but I guess there's not a lot of meaty roles for someone his age out there.

I'm told it had enough "inspired by" points that Powers got paid for the film rights, which is at least something. I saw it on a plane to Arizona. I remember quite enjoying it, but I don't remember anything about it. Charitably, I'm assuming that that's a combination of age and anoxia.

I'm sure there was an interview with Powers (SFX?) where he mentioned that several people had suggested he involved lawyers due to various aspects of the first trilogy... but they promptly bought the film rights and paid him money, and if they then only wanted to 'inspire' #4, rather than adapt, that was fine by him.
