Zoe Williams in today's Guardian: I don't love Jordan

I was beginning to think I was the only one. Not that I would watch "I'm a Celebrity..." if I had a gun held to my head, but it's been everywhere. The Independent on Saturday had a whole page about why she's a role model. No. Not on my planet.

Oh dear... what does it say about me that at first I thought you were referring to Jordan the F1 team?

But for the record, I agree Jordan the celeb can go die bleeding in a gutter somewhere.

My first thought was Jordan the country! I have no idea who Jordan the celeb is. I get the feeling I am better off for it.

Oh, you are.

One of the down sides of living in Britain is that even if you only read the up-market "quality" papers, you still find out more celebrity gossip than you ever wanted to know. Even without reading the articles, as it's kind of hard to not see the headlines.

There's even "seirous" comment pieces on all the reality TV rubbish.

We were talking about this at work the other day. The UK has Posh and Beckham. The US has Ben & J. Lo, though I think Posh and Beckham is taken to a far greater extreme in the UK.
I remember meeting a Canadian who had moved to London, on a plane. She complained that there just were not any quality papers. I think my mum enjoys the Telegraph online and I guess you read the Guardian. I still rely on the Globe & Mail as my main news source.

I read The Guardian and the Independent (neither of which I've had time to buy in paper format for a couple of years). Both of these have lots of really good insightful commentary and decent international coverage. Sadly they feel the need to comment on popular culture that makes it impossible to avoid it even if you want to.

I also read the Globe & Mail online, as well as bbc.co.uk news and occasionally cbc.ca, but their web news isn't great.

Not on my planet either. I was surprised earlier when I read that article that anyone had suggested she was a role model.

Apparently John Lydon has been great on the programme though. And did you see Germaine Greer's article in the Guardian? http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,1137453,00.html

Yes, I saw it.

I don't care how good John Lydon has been on it - it could feature Nick Cave, David Bowie and every other public figure I've ever admired, and I still wouldn't watch it.
