Today, I have discovered that being able to drink moderate amounts of alcohol without ill effects applies only when on holiday. I have spent most of the day trying to die. Having run out of prescription painkillers does not help.

Things not to do while sitting around feeling mildly sorry for oneself: Read the C10 Roll Call. I may not be without a passport as expected, but I still can't go. And yes, I do still want to go.

Not being able to do stuff when I was just plain broke was easier to deal with than not being able to do stuff because I have goals and the money is spoken for. Even if it's for ultimately Good Things.

I have also just finished reading No Logo. A lot of the content wasn't new to me, because a lot of it is touched on in Fast Food Nation and Nickel and Dimed, and various news sources. This one affected me a little more though, because it deals with a subject very dear to me - clothes shopping. I've been aware since forever that virtually all the clothes you can buy are made in sweatshops (even when clothing was made in the first world the garment industry was notorious for the way it treated its workers), but - damn. It did make me very glad that I grew up before branding and advertising got to be quite as ubiquitous as it is now. The thought of advertising and fizzy drink/junk food sales in school is Alien and Wrong to me.

Is there such a thing as a directory of where one can buy clothes that haven't been made in sweatshop conditions? I'll settle for clothes that have been made in the developing world but in factories that pay the minimum wage, observe labour laws, and actually invest something in the country of manufacture.
