inulroWe got home this morning, after two nights of minimal sleep. All things considered, I don't feel that bad. Yet.
However, I have to find a method of affordable transatlantic travel that doesn't involve the 3 1/2 hour coach trip to Bristol from Gatwick[1]. That's the part that nearly kills me every time (cramp set in to most of my lower body. It hurt.), although the fact that the entirety of Gatwick, the motorway between Gatwick & Heathrow, and Heathrow itself are under construction made it a longer period of torture than usual.
Most foreign nationals (including Canadians) were getting a real grilling at Immigration this morning, but the guy I got didn't really even look at my visa (I suppose the fact that my passport is issued in London says I live here) so I got stamped through even faster than usual. Could have sworn I heard other Immigrations officials grilling permanent residents so I guess I got lucky.
I'll do a proper writeup tomorrow - I should be at work, but I'll go in on Wednesday instead. The joy of not quite full time work. I might pop in tomorrow afternoon if I feel up to it.
We got back to find our house is uncomfortably hot - it takes a long time to heat up and thus doesn't often, but in our absence no temperature-lowing precautions were taken. Downstairs is now OK but upstairs still warmer than strictly necessary.
Pet sitter may be expensive but it was nice to come back to clean cages and freshly vaccuumed carpet. Bunnies were not as happy as they might have been to be allowed outside because of the heat.
This is the first time I've come back from abroad that it hasn't been raining. However, between the road works and the gum stuck to the bottom of my shoe already (somewhere in there is a rant about how *dirty* this country is, but a number of you, particularly the Australians, have done it already). How I really feel about being back will probably be determined by the state of my work place.
