At some point after 11:00 last night, just as I was 99% asleep, some massive fuck-off ordnance-grade fireworks exploded outside my house.

Unfortunately I was too comatose to get up to check if the little bastards were setting them off in the street (it certainly sounded like it, except that no car alarms went off)- the Council have informed me that if that happens, to call 999 immediately. TBH, I would have been more inclined to go outside and start a fight, because the chances of the police getting there before they've done a runner are pretty slim. As it happened, this went on for some time.

So, no sleep for me again. Thus, no going to work again. Which is not a problem at the moment, but I'm starting a Real Job in 4 weeks. The sort where I have to turn up every day, on time. Between the newfound flakiness of FirstBus on the 40-something routes (I can no longer get in to work for the time I prefer as it is), and the fact that I never know when the bastard locals will blow shit up at stupid hours, I'm really quite worried about not getting through my 3-month probationery period.

To top it off, I had a whole bunch of constructive projects planned for my day off tomorrow. Which has turned into today, and mostly involved sleeping.

Actually it was just before 11, otherwise I would have called the plod. But you're quite right, they weren't your average fireworks. I reckon they must have been 'extras' from the harbour festival. Was kinda hoping the smoke trail would attract a lightening strike and fry the little sods, but no such luck :(

Might it be worth bringing it to the attention of your MP? I've no idea if that sort of thing is useful or not. Or the local papers? I know a load of people, myself included, that are really fed up of the size of these things, but there doesn't seem to be any movement towards getting rid of them.

Well, the government's just announced a fireworks curfew. Although it only come into effect at 11pm, it's also an offence for anyone under 18 to be carrying fireworks, so if the local little scrotes start setting them off, the Plod should come and sort it out.
