To avoid getting caught in the downpour today, I had a look around some shops I either don't normally go to or haven't been to in ages, and was happy to discover that Body Shop still sell a lot of my favourite stuff, and have some new things that I'd like to try when I'm solvent again.
It's almost too bad my new job won't involve suits - Monsoon had a gorgeous one which at over £200 I can't buy just for the hell of it. I'm trying to get my head around this corporate casualwear concept, but have decided to stick with overdressing in the suit till I see what everyone else wears and buy stuff accordingly. Have seen some tops that probably won't make me feel too stupid. I hope.
Struggled in to M&S to buy another umbrella but surprise, they were sold out. Fortunately it had let up a bit by then. Oh, and the sales staff were less than polite *again*. (I don't think I shared the suit saga. Suffice to say that if I didn't have an interview emergency and if there'd been any decent suits anywhere else in downtown Bristol, I would NOT have given them my money). I'm really never going to buy anything that's not food there any more. They're even polite to me in House of Fraser, where I could never in a million years afford to shop, yet M&S staff appear to feel I don't fit their target demographic. And they wonder why they're going broke?

I'm not doing it because I haven't read much on it. I just think it's worth pointing out that everybody really should check out A Canticle for Leibowitz and Stand on Zanzibar. Some of Brunner's other books are good too, but I agree that Stand on Zanzibar is the best.
