There's only the two :-(

I've heard of more or less equal numbers of people on both committees & know equally little about them.

The SD bid is very solid with hotel & venues etc already worked out. But despite being on the coast, the pirate theme is sort of clutching at straws (not that the theme is ever important). Whitby aside, the timing is probably better plane-fare wise.

The Tampa bid is the down side of not having venue & hotels sorted out yet (However, since when have I ever been able to afford the official hotel). It's on a long weekend in the UK, so I'd get a free day of annual leave. I'm a sucker - they're playing the old Spanish heritage card, and I'm falling for it. Overall, it sounds like more fun. I know I'm not in theory a fan of Florida, but by then I will be so sick of never seeing the sun that I might actually be looking forward to it.

And, most importantly, it's on the "correct" coast to fit it into going home & kidnappingvisiting [livejournal.com profile] nasrat and [livejournal.com profile] techbint in Boston. I see a road trip here. Hm. That would need to be a week-long plus road trip to see all the sights down the Eastern Seaboard.

Chances are it'll be like last year & the logistics just won't work out, but I'm going to vote Tampa anyway. Even with their new flash-enabled website.

Some people have issues about San Diego because of Dragon (one of the organisers). He was part of the NYC bid team and has been quite in one's face about SD (from what I heard from friends at C10). NYC was one of the 2 unsuccessful Convergences and people in the know are quite wary of his "style".

Personally, if I was to go, Tampa would be my choice (but if you do go, watch out for airfares jumping high due to the holiday weekend). Though I have lots of west coast friends I could see, the SD bid does clash with Whitby.

Probably won't go to either one. If I was going to spend my money on a US trip next year, it would be to other parts of the US. I think France is a good contender for 2005 for us.

If I don't go to Convergence, I can probably manage France *and* North America this year, inlcuding probably seeing more of North America that I haven't been to before.

Since replying to you, I had a bit of a think and realise that not being able to go to C10 hurt more than I thought it did. It was the important one for me to be at and I have lost a lot of the interest in C due to that. I seriously doubt I will make an effort to go to another Convergence unless it's ends up in Chicago again. :(

Hey, I have a thought. How about a "Goth" themed Convergence? Wow! What a trip *that* would be!
