Happy New Year all!

I don't have the lurgy that seems to be doing the rounds, I'm just having a bad bout of chronic illness style Feeling Like Shit. I took Friday off so I could have four days to Accomplish Stuff (TM). So far, I have some clean rodent cages & a slightly less revolting bathroom, but that's the extent of it. Oh, and a finished jigsaw puzzle. I even fell asleep before midnight last night despite the firework fest that started at 5 pm. I've spent most of today asleep.

Jason's Christmas present still hasn't come. Play.com sent it on Friday 17th December. I think I can declare it missing in action. Does anyone know if I should contact play.com or my credit card company first about a refund?

On a more serious note, does anyone else find the amount of resources being expended on identifying the bodies of Western tourists in Thailand when no such effort is being made (or realistically possible) with the local people frivolous at best to offensive at worst? Even if the resources are being provided by Western countries, they could be put to much more constructive and necessary uses.

Frivolous, and offensive. =:-( As is a lot of the news reporting. Who gives a flying fuck if the Bloggs from Tipton are still missing? Well, obviously their friends and relatives, just the same as it is for thousands upon thousands of Johnny Foreigner.

Reading about the town of 10,000 in Indonesia that is no longer anything and the other villages/towns that may be discovered when people can access them (also flattened and devoid of life), I also find if offensive.

As well as the countries hoping that tourists still come in this coming week to "keep the tourist dollar flowing". The last place I would want to be is in one of those countries having a good time.

To be fair, some tourists are staying in Thailand to help out with aid and rebuilding efforts, and other people are still going out to do the same instead of having a holiday as originally booked.

Ah, but you note my last phrase was "having a good time". I would go there or stay there if it was to help, but it seems that some companies/countries don't want to lose money and are trying to get people to go for a holiday only.

I was put off by local headlines that said "150 Canadians missing" or something similar. Give me a break there are tens of thousands of people affected.
