I just got back from seeing Henry Rollins. Something I never expected I'd actually be able to do.

It is possible to have a quasi-religious experience whilst laughing one's ass off?

He ranted for 2 3/4 hours, and I didn't stop laughing. Even when he was talking about the Ramones dying off, and being with Johnny the day before he died.

Allegedly, he cut a track with William Shatner in Nashville recently.

And stuff. I should have bought the DVD on the merchandise stall, but I'm trying to Stop Buying Stuff.

Having said that, I've been meaning to pick up a copy of Get in the Van for years, and really need to do something about it now.

He did. It's on Shatno's new album, which is actually moderately interesting. The version of Common People is exactly what you'd expect, but the rest of it's much better. The one they did together - I Can't Get Behind That - is one of the funny ones. A bit of a rant.

Yes. He went on at great length about the recording session. Hilarious stuff, but I wasn't entirely sure if he was making it up.

Get In The Van is a very depressing book. There are funny incidents in it, but you wonder why he took so much shit back in the Black Flag days.

I found it morbidly fascinating, more than depressing. Very intense book, made more so by the funny incidents acting as counterpoint to the grimness of the rest of it.

I would have loved to have gone to that Henry Rollins gig. I am glad you had a great time.
