Weekend

This weekend was uncharacteristically event-filled, and I'm not quite dead. Go me! I was going to do this with links & stuff, but I'm nearly dead, so text-only. Nor am I name-checking. You know who you are.

Dead and Buried
Friday, I finally made my first appearance at Dead and Buried. Katscan were on stage when we arrived. They sounded pretty horrible on entrance, but they grow on you (like fungus) and after a couple of songs Jason & I were both nodding happily along. There's not an original idea in there, but I didn't run out of the room screaming.

New Days Delay were bouncy and good fun. Very much what I expected from the one song that I knew, but I will definitely be investigating more of their material. Band of the night.

All I knew about Devilish Presley was "She's Not America", which I think is sublime, and lots of people I trust saying that the live experience is better. So, they opened with "She's Not America", which was indeed wonderful, but it went downhill from there. I'd go so far as to say they pissed me off. Don't tell the audience to jump around and applaud/shout more - make them want to.

Anyway, by that time it was obvious the venue was full of people I just don't see enough of, and in some cases hadn't seen in literally years, so I failed to geek out to the masterful setlist as I was too busy socialising. There was a "small world" incident that left me bewildered & confused. It had been a long day, so we left early.

Feeling the Puppy Love
Crash space was kindly provided by the owners of two miniature Schnauzers, one of whom is only 9 months old. I like dogs just fine, but these are the only dogs I've ever really wanted to take home for myself. They're kind of like Roborovski hamsters in that everything they do is intrinsically funny. Being a rodent owner, I'm used to pets that hate you, so the whole unconditional doggie love thing is strange. At the moment I think it's neat, but I do wonder if it would soon get old and annoying if I had my own dog. I'm not sure that I'm up to being idolised, even by my pets.

Complete planning failure
I achieved the start of my aim on Saturday, in that I went to the lovely health food shop in Crouch End to buy lovely food that I can't get here. Things kind of went downhill from there - a trip to Muswell Hill that should have taken 10 minutes took an hour; and then every local high street in north east London was utterly gridlocked, and it eventually became obvious that we were not going to get south of the river to pick up the wardrobe from [livejournal.com profile] zoo_music_girl. I can't thank [livejournal.com profile] ivory_goddess and [livejournal.com profile] moral_vacuum enough for transporting said item of furniture to Milton Keynes in light of my uncharacteristic (honest) failure to adequately assess the situation.

Special Birthday Tea Party
As fabulous as always. I was running on empty by then, and lost my voice a couple of times but had an excellent time nonetheless. Thanks again to Hester for the take-away baked goods.

Today, I have achieved the bare minimum, and am going to (hopefully) get some sleep now. I owe several of you emails & calls; I'll start getting caught up tomorrow.

Lovely to see you, thankyou for coming, especially after such a packed weekend! You must be exhausted!

I'm not too bad. One of the redeeming features of my craptastic job is that I don't have to save energy for brain power at work. I just need to have sufficient serotonin reserves to restrain me from attempting to kill my annoying colleague.
