I've been looking at OU courses. Not so much for another qualification I will fail to use, but just to keep my brain alive, but I'm not too sure what's right for me. Some of you know a lot more about the OU than I do.

Keeping in mind that I already have a BA, an MA and half a PhD in literature and history.

I think I've already decided against short first-level courses in things like archaeology, anthropology and earth sciences. While they sound like things I could physically cope with, I suspect I'd find the courses overly simplistic, and get just as much out of just reading the course material, because I already know how to do research and write papers, and I got the impression that those are a good deal of what goes on in lower-level courses.

What I'm particularly interested in is International Development: Changes for a world in transition. I'm sort of put off by the student comments about how much work is involved. On the one hand, I've done a lot of study with some seriously hefty reading and writing requirements. On the other hand, I'd be holding down a full time job which would not give me any time off for OU study, and the course fee is quite a lot for something I might not physically or emotionally be able to do.

Even though it's pretty different from anything I've studied before, I'm afraid I'll find any further undergrad study frustrating and superficial. I also suspect I've spent too much time in traditional education to get much satisfaction out of distance learning.

Not that it's an option right now, and taking an evening class in Spanish is probably what I should do.
