[books 2011] some poetry
Oct. 18th, 2011 02:30 pm62. Poems Bewitched and Haunted (Everyman's Library Pocket Poets)
I've been making my way slowly through this little volume for years. I bought it when we were in the US for Hallowe'en. It's a beautifully put together product - the cloth cover is orange, and the dust jacket has lots of Jack O'Lanterns on it.
It's a collection of, for want of a better term, Spooky Poetry - anything to do with witches, ghosts, hauntings, etc. Selections range from classical poetry to modern. There are excerpts from longer works (Virgil, Shakespeare, Faust etc).
The quality of the poems is wildly variable - there's a reason some of these people aren't remembered! But on the whole the good outweighs the bad.
