Or, advanced room tetris.
I didn't have a lot of concrete plans for today, other than let the gas engineer in to service the boilers. In order to get at the upstairs boiler in my computer room, the BIG bookcase had to be moved.
That's one of the parts of the room that still had carpet, and it really made no sense to move the bookcase out of the corner and not get rid of the carpet, so I did that after the engineer left (both boilers have a clean bill of health, thankfully).
Then I removed the carpet from under the desk (not made easier by the fact that the desk falls apart when you try to move it), cleaned everything off the top of the desk and sorted out the contents of the drawers (and threw most of it away). The floorboards are pretty bad; it doesn't look like restoring & finishing is going to be an option, but even they look better than the carpet that was there. For the first time in years I can get to the bookcase easily.
There's still carpet on about 2/3 of the floor, but I can't realistically do any more room tetris until I ebay/NiceBoots all the crap that's been piling up in here for me to sell.
I did three times as much stuff as I thought I could accomplish in one day, and I'm not as exhausted as I should be. It's entirely possible I'll spend tomorrow or the next day in bed reading and taking painkillers by the ton. That will not be the end of the world.
