Unfortunately, I first became aware of Bruce Springsteen when "Born in the USA" was everywhere. Even then I knew that it wasn't what all the airheads at school thought it was, but the associations were such that I would run a mile.

Then I was into the New Music and arty punky stuff.

I've always been enough of a music nerd to know that a lot of musicians I respect have the big love for Bruce, and understood on an intellectual level that he's good.

A few years ago there was an episode of Cold Case where all the music was Springsteen and it really got my attention.

Embarrassingly enough, today is the first time I've ever sat down to listen to any of albums in their entirety. I started with Born to Run because I love that song. The whole thing is astonishingly good! That's me busy for the rest of the week.

Edit: Until today, I'd only heard the David Bowie version of It's Hard to be a Saint in the City. I have to concede that the original is superior. (Though the cover is hardly Bowie's finest moment).

Still here. Work is still taking up 110% of my energy, thus lack of posting.

I keep having thoughts I'd like to share here, but that's inevitably while I'm walking around Bristol and by the time I get home I'm too tired to turn the computer on. Yeah, I have an iPhone but it's hard to post while walking.

Having a lot of fun with Spotify for the phone. At first I was wallowing in 80s nostalgia (Mute Audio Documents are an amazing collection; Television and Magazine are the US and UK versions of the same thing, and there's no way The Strokes had never heard of Television, as they claim). Lately I've been listening to newer stuff that media indicates I might like. On exploratory listening, Florence + The Machine and Lady Gaga seem to be my sort of thing.

Have also caught up with the Ghoultown albums have have come out since I bought the first 2 + EP when I initially got all excited about them. Pretty much the same thing as the old albums, if anything they're leaning more towards Tex-Mex death metal than Tex-Mex goth. I will still be purchasing the actual CDs directly from the band when I have some cash, because I am A Fan and think they deserve my money.
