Police want new powers to deal with aftermath of terror attack

It's the "banning demonstrations and travel" that's more than just a bit worrying.

Canadians - is any of this happening in Canada? I can't see any evidence in the Globe & Mail. Is Canada on high terrorist alert? I'm still kinda unclear whether it's the whole Western world or just Britain & the US.

There has been talk of ID cards, but the idea isn't going over very well.

Other than increased security at airports and events like G7 meetings, there has been no mention at all of restricting travel or the right to demonstrate.

Well, other than by the Toronto Cheif of Police, but he's a wingnut.

Yeah, I'd seen both of those. But is the country on "high terror alert"? We're being told daily to expect an attack on London immanently.

No. Our current government is considerably less given to "rule by panic".
